There'll probably be another sale around Christmas.
Avid have really neutered it into some other program (it didn't start out as crippled as the version that is out there now it's now missing some real bread and butter items like the clip list.) Doing a subscription for a few months of regular Pro Tools is a much better introduction to Pro Tools.Īnd as I mentioned earlier, they've done this 20% sale before and they'll do it again so don't feel rushed to jump.

It is free but it is so far away from actual Pro Tools.

Otherwise, outside of the initial price, keeping the license up-to-date is much more expensive than regular.ĭon't get Pro Tools | First. Is the regular what most home and small studios use?Don't get Ultimate unless you absolutely need it for its features.

Ultimate- I will describe my situation in full below but for basic professional home recording and post production (scoring, VO, editing, etc) the regular version seems adequate (not working on any summer blockbusters at the moment). and if you want to get your feet wet you can grab Pro Tools | First. Sorry to write so much but I know people here want details when answering specific questions. I told myself to be brave and check here before I went forward with this purchase. I do really enjoy it but my plan has always been to learn Pro Tools because, well, I feel like I should as it's still the industry standard (I'm very familiar with the debates to the contrary and don't want to start another one) and I don't want to not get a job because I am not proficient with it.
I've been learning on Logic as it came with my new Mac and seemed to be preferred among composers. I recently got all "2018" and have been home schooling in modern production and post production, mixing, etc. I have a long musical history and studio experience but it's been primarily analog. Is there something else I'm not considering?Īpologies if this is a redundant thread but I searched for similar discussions and they seemed a little out of date since the Avid repackaging earlier this year. Is the regular what most home and small studios use? Subscription- For just under $480 on sale it seems like buying is the smart option as it's less than the price of subscribing for two years (and $120 savings) Is there something I'm not getting about this sale that I should be wary of instead of ordering it direct from Avid? This is my primary concern. This is clearly an official and approved sale but Avid are not offering it on their website so my questions are: I see that Vintage Audio King is offering a Labor Day 20% off sale so it seems like a good time to buy. I'm planning to get Pro Tools for the first time. OK this is my first post, so please be gentle.
